Gold, silver and fuel rates in September 2026: the month in numbers

Every figure below comes from our own daily readings across 96 Indian cities. This is what September 2026 actually did, month closed and counted.
Gold
24K gold fell 4.7% over September 2026, from ₹15,693 to ₹14,957 a gram.
| 24K | 22K | |
|---|---|---|
| Opened | ₹15,693 | ₹14,385 |
| Closed | ₹14,957 | ₹13,710 |
| Change | -4.7% | -4.7% |
| Month's high | ₹15,693 on 1 September | — |
| Month's low | ₹14,880 on 29 September | — |
On ten grams, that close works out to ₹1,49,570 for 24K and ₹1,37,100 for 22K. One tola, 11.6638 grams, came to ₹1,74,455 and ₹1,59,911.
Across the month's 29 readings, gold rose on 9 days, fell on 15 and held still on 4. Its largest single move was a fall of ₹491 a gram on 2 September — ₹4,910 on ten grams.
The gap between the month's high and low was ₹813 a gram, or ₹8,130 on a ten-gram purchase. That is the range someone buying at a random moment in September was exposed to.
Silver
Silver fell 4%, from ₹250.00 to ₹240.00 a gram — ₹2,50,000 to ₹2,40,000 a kilogram, which is how silver is usually bought.
| Silver | |
|---|---|
| Opened | ₹2,50,000 /kg |
| Closed | ₹2,40,000 /kg |
| Month's high | ₹2,55,000 /kg on 10 September |
| Month's low | ₹2,40,000 /kg on 28 September |
Silver held completely still on 18 of 28 day-to-day moves. That is normal and not a sign of calm: silver is quoted in coarse steps, so it sits and then jumps. Its biggest single move was ₹10,000 a kilogram on 11 September.
Gold was the larger mover of the two this month.
The gold-to-silver ratio closed at 62.3 — the number of grams of silver it took to match one gram of gold.
Fuel, as the month ended
Petrol across the 53 cities we track ran from ₹99.54 in Dehradun to ₹117.25 in Vijayawada — a spread of ₹17.71 a litre, against a median of ₹107.87.
Diesel ran ₹89.47 to ₹104.96, a ₹15.49 spread, median ₹98.25.
The domestic LPG cylinder ranged from ₹939.50 in Ghaziabad to ₹1,058.00 in Srinagar, median ₹959.50. Cylinder prices are revised monthly rather than daily.
Fuel prices vary by state tax and by distance from the depot, not by the day of the month — we looked at why in our post on fuel prices across states.
What to make of it
One month is a short window, and a single month's direction is not a trend. What a month is good for is the range: gold's high and low were ₹813 a gram apart, so the cost of buying on a bad day rather than a good one was about ₹8,130 on ten grams. That is the number worth remembering, because it is the one you can actually be caught by.
